  1. Larger or more intricate dies are going to be more expensive so if that's what you want to use, yes, it makes more sense to get an electronic cutter. You can also cut stamp shapes with one so you save on those too.

    There is significant markup on dies. They are popular now - hugely popular - and don't think that companies are not going to take advantage of that.

  2. Yes, except that I have a gorgeous doily die, slightly bigger than A2 that is very, very intricate and it cost me $12. So it doesn't seem to be true across the board.

    It's all relative, right? How big, how detailed. . . . suffice to say, these companies are not just doing dies because you want them or that they are popular. Everyone makes $$$ on them with a pretty good markup.

  7. rachel, enough already. you are making way way too much of this on SCS. You posted. fine. you responded to some comments fine. but you aren't letting it go. this makes you appear to be a bit nuts. If you complain too much you will make Julie and PTI look good.

    calling the DT immoral was just a bit over the top, no? You continued to purchase from them until YOU had a problem. That was fine and moral. You lose $16 bucks and suddenly you are Paul Revere warning everyone.

  8. I for one, am glad she exposed them because the uni's make it look like PTI was born again. Also, if I were treated that way by Julie I would also shout it to the rooftops. It is not about the money but about the lack of integrity of this company. And of course when someone has a problem is when they speak about it. Think about that sentence. It is illogical on your part. Rachel does not appear nuts, she appears angry and disappointed and doesn't want others to be PTI victims.

  11. How is abiding by the rules a lack of integrity? PTI does accept used merchandise for return. Period. And Rachel is certainly is not a victim. She is doing what she said she would do...which is making a big stink because she did not get her way. She thought she could return the used on and nobody would notice. And then when she got called out, she threatened to raise a stink if she didn't get "loyal customer" treatment. The only thing she exposed was her lack of character.

  13. rachel, glad you bought wplus9. love that company. but ENOUGH ALREADY. I happen to agree with you. but you kept buying knowing that OTHERS had problems. so you made your point. you are actively seeking to go to every forum to bash the company.

    and 8:01. Rachel is a victim if she didn't use the plate. PERIOD. ONLY rachel knows if she used the plate. PTI is petty and should SUCK it up. It's the cost of doing businesss online.

  14. How would you know what the cost of doing business online is? I think PTI would rather lose her as a customer (and anyone who does this kind of dishonest stuff) than to placate a thief and save customers. Kudos to them!

  15. PTI should understand "the cost of doing business online". PTI will lose A customer? I think not. I think they will lose many, many customers and potential customers. I always do a search on SCS before I send my money to a company I don't know about. So they lost $16 plus her thousands of future orders (her past orders are in thousands and I would assume that would continue if not for this ONE problem). They should know by now that 1 unhappy customer will use social media to let thousands know. The wording of the email is PROOF of who is in the wrong. An email like that to ANY customer under ANY circumstances is pretty transparent with their inability to rise above, show integrity, and to protect what little reputation they started to rebuild. The thread on SCS is pretty telling and I think Julie is probably kicking herself yet again, but again she holds herself in such high regard that it won't keep her from revealing her true character every so often. She just cannot hide who she is especially when anyone dares to come up against her highness.

  16. First of all, we only see what Rachel wants us to see. There is no proof that any of that email is true, or was actually sent by Julie. Second, we did not see any of the emails before or after that "email" she posted. What if she was just trying to get PTI to allow her to return a used item, and is using this rant to try and get them to cave? What if she is fudging the email to make it look like she is in the right? Are we to just assume that what she is saying is truthful? And then make decisions about where to spend our money based on that "truth"? No thanks! I will continue to shop where I feel I get the most value for my money, and will not let the nutjobs make that decision for me.

So we have ONE supposed incident from Rachel and dozens and dozens of incidents where PTI has been outed for this very sort of thing by dozens and dozens of different people--to the point where PTI deletes any post about a complaint so others don't see the evidence. Hmmmmm, I think I would err on the side of Rachel..

  21. Wow, either the PTI defenders are out in full force here, or someone is having a bit of fun trying to get a rise out of everyone.

    While I am sad that Rachel had to experience Julie's truly appalling behavior, I do have to admit that I find it all a bit ironic. Rachel continued to patronize PTI even though there was ample evidence that their customer service was horrible. It wasn't until she was wronged herself that it all finally clicked. It is attitudes like that that allow PTI to maintain a healthy business regardless of their serious shortcomings. Julie made that pretty obvious in her email...why make changes when you don't have to? Wake up all you loyal PTI customers!!

  26. Like stated above, it is not the first time this happens with Julie. It us BIT the first story of this kind. I was one of those that turned a blind eye to what was going on with customer service because it hadn't happen to me. I admit I continued to patronize PTI even though in the out of my stomach it felt wrong...but then it happened to me. It sucks that it had to come to that, but it did. I'm sure I am not the only one.
    Rachel in fact is a victim of Julie's lack of respect for her customers. Julie is condescending jerk, and would NEVER admit to bring wrong. I saw it first hand.

  27. Ok so I just read Rachel's emails...you know the entire thread that she posted on her blog. I see a few things wrong with it... after Julie told her she would not be able to refund her because the plate was used, she went on a spat about being a loyal customer and not having great customer service in the past and blah blah blah. She started the fight that became unpleasant, she dug up the jerk in Julie. "Please don't do this to me?!" Really? She didn't approach the situation well either...

  38. I find Rachel's initial response to Julie's email saying "I will not be able to give you credit for this item as it has been used" really weird. Why in the world did she get so incredibly defensive right out of the gate? A simple, professional "I'm sure there's some kind of mix-up here because I never even opened the package....." etc. would have been more appropriate. The fact that she got so immediately defensive makes me think #1 maybe she IS being dishonest, and #2 she fueled the fire causing the response she got from Julie. I know I've read and heard before about Julie's unprofessional manner, but my opinion is that Rachel is the one who cast the first stone.

    Who knows if it was a used die or not ... enough is enough. When I have had issues with PTI, the CS replies to me have been very pleasant and to the point. They have been accommodating and helpful.

  52. I read the email trail Rachel provided. I don't know which plate she returned, but she certainly seemed to over-react from the beginning in her email responses. Both parties look bad in those emails IMO.

    My question: Do used PTI impression plates really look as beat up as Julie says they do? I have to admit to not yet trying mine although I bought them a while ago.

  59. From where I sit, Julie did the right thing. They have a policy that says they do not accept returns on used merchandise. Rachel wanted them to swap it out for her because she is such a good customer. Imagine the uproar if she did things for loyal customers, but not just "good" customers. Policy is only policy if it is applied across the board.

  62. So what you're saying is that Julie chose that single plate out of all of the returns, and decided to not accept that one item, at random, and say that it was used? Where is the logic in that? In any situation ask who would benefit from lying - PTI, or Rachel? Rachel sent her used plate back and kept the new one. She thought it wouldn't be a big deal. The when she got caught she lied and tried to stress the "loyal customer" card. PTI sells THOUSANDS of those plates and dies. What would they gain by lying about the plate? Especially in light of all of the bad press she threatened?

  71. I used to have a biz in the stamp/scrap industry. We sold wholesale, not retail. I gave my customers the benefit of the doubt ALWAYS. I had this one store owner. She ordered about $200 worth of product. A day after receiving it, she called to say that one of the items was missing. "One" being one grouping of 6 units, for a wholesale value of about $30. It was unusual as I packed all the orders myself, I'm very detail oriented, and rarely make mistakes like that, but hey, I'm not perfect so I sent off the missing 6 pieces. About 6 weeks later I got a reorder from this same store owner. Again, about a $200 order. Knowing the previous issue, I took extra care when packing it. Sure enough, several days passed and I got another call from her stating that an item was missing. Rather than call her a liar, I once again sent her the missing items. Another month passed and in comes another order. This time, I made notes about which size box I used, how many sheets of packing paper I used, and the exact weight of the box down to the tenth of an ounce. I wasn't certain yet how I'd handle it if she called a third time but at least I was prepared. She didn't call and that was the last she ever ordered from me. I often wonder how many companies she pulled this with.

    How would I have handled Rachel's situation? With complete trust that she was telling the truth. If it happened multiple times, then I'd readdress it, but a first time occurence? The customer is always right. Even if you think they're not.

  80. I have been thinking a little bit about PTI today with the latest story about CS.

    I'm not sure if I believe Rachel or not. I think Julie should, as a business owner, rise above it all in communication with customers, and should have just assumed she was telling the truth to get it over and done with.

    What this story does for me though is bring up all of the past incidences, the stories we've heard secondhand, but also the things they've done and not done that are very public and the way some things have been handled in their own forum in the past. A lot of those things are long gone, the public buzz has been quiet, and I kind of thought they'd cleaned up their act. This fresh story just digs up all of the past problems and for me, the one they could never come back from, the mass email delete.

    So. . . just don't buy from them, right? Off my radar, right? Well, yes. Except frankly my anger is a bit relieved when I can poke fun at some of the stuff they do - honestly, the errors on stamps, poor designs, etc., are no skin off my nose. I don't have to buy crappy products. But it's sort of a comic relief - human nature, and maybe not my best side but there it is.

    But it isn't entirely about whether or not to patronize their store. The problem is that I used to. I have PTI product. Now I don't blog anymore so it's not a question of whether I want to steer people to them (or away from them). But last weekend, I participated in a local used craft supply sale and some of my items were PTI. PTI sets that I remember all of the oohs and ahhs over - what fabulous designs! what fabulous stamps! No one wants them. All of my other stuff sold easily. PTI? Who are they? No one around here even has heard of them. And I can talk about the quality but I was always careful to not make a big deal of the company or try to explain who they are or refer people to them - like I used to.

    So yes, I tried to sell a bunch of them that I'm tired of, but no one wanted them. And then I come home, and look at the ones I chose to keep because I really like them. But any time I think of using them, they honestly just kind of give me the creeps. It's like any joy they used to bring me has been sucked right out by my feelings about this company. Maybe ones like Green Thumb (or whatever it's called) that are so old - honestly, some of these stamps feel like they are from another company entirely.

    It just makes me mad that a faceless (to me), impersonal entity can have that kind of power over my emotions. I really resent them for that. They probably look at their company with their scant employees and feel like they can do whatever they want as long as they are happy and can sleep at night because it's their own damn business and no one else's. THAT is the attitude toward customers that bothers me the most. THAT is the reason my products from them now leave me cold.

    I don't want to look at my supplies, or my finished products, or try to sit down to make something and have all of this absurd angst over the company. I may just take a whole box of it and drop it off at the Goodwill and be done with it.

    Glad to get that off my chest. Anyone else feel that way? I am sure there are some that are going to make fun of me over this comment. I am not some freakazoid who has deep emotional responses to inanimate objects, lol. But PTI . . . . something I used to really look forward to is now gone and what's left is soured.

  81. some people like certain kinds of colors for crying out loud. I like the earthy colors so I like Heather's cards, but I don't like weird combinations of brights so I stay away from Dawn's. Whatever.

  82. You summed it up perfectly for me. I used to love some of those stamps, but now they leave a bitter taste when I look at them. Hard to part with them because I remember how I loved them at one time. I have also tried selling them and you basically cannot give them away anymore. Sometimes I give stamps to kids/schools, but with PTI you would have to understand how they work together. I just feel rather kicked in the teeth. I sold dozens sets for them via my blog when readers begged to know where they came from and I got about 15 friends hooked on them too. I talked them up, participated in the hops (which is just a way for them to get their stamps to sell more), and overall supported them even when things were not looking good. I even defended them until I had my own personal experience of being told off by Nichole over something that she did to begin with. I was stupid. I admit it. I emailed with Nichole and kind of felt a friendship of sorts. SO stupid of me and will never do that again. She even used an idea of mine on her blog once and I was so proud of that. I felt like I knew her from before she really got PTI even started. I thought she was a person of good motives, but I trusted that way, way too long. I guess I am just so disappointed in the whole thing. Kind of like being a cheerleader for a team only to find out they are cheaters or something.

  83. You guys take PTI way too seriously. They're just a fucking stamp company. And they are free to run their business any way they desire. It's not their fault that you went all psycho over them and their products, and then got butt-hurt when they did something you didn't agree with. I don't like Walmart, partly because of the way they treat their employees. But I shop there all the time because of the value. I don't get mad at them for not meeting my standards, like they have done something to me personally. Even if I don't like the way they treat me, as a customer, I don't find it necessary to then blog about them and tell everyone else how much they suck. Cause nobody gives a fuck.

    You can come join us in the For Sale forum at PTI with all of those sets. We would love to buy them.

    And you weren't friends with Nichole, you were a customer.

  84. I agree with both 6:03 and 6:12. I have felt the same way. I have also been burned by Julie but kept quiet about it. I was also a cheerleader, got my friends hooked. I host card classes in my home and although my stamps are about 75% PTI I try not to use them in my classes. And if I do, I usually talk up all the other companies like Hero Arts, Wplus9, SSS etc.

    6:35, that's one aspect of 6:12's story that I don't share. I sure never felt we were friends and never "got" this idea of stamping celebrity or the kinship people feel with the business people behind the scenes.

    But this really isn't like using paper towels to me. Stamping and creating are maybe a little more personal to me than they are to you. I purchase stamps because the images have a personal connection for me or else I just would not bother. They speak to the very reasons I choose to create and when it's for greeting cards for important occasions for the most important people in my life, I choose them because of that endeavor.

    So I have to invalidate your analogy. I get your point though. Yeah it's a business for them. It's a "hobby" for us. It's not the end of the world, it's a way first-world problem, and there isn't much consequence except in a business sense..... and my point, that it's a little more personal to me than that. I spent good money on a product that I found joy in using, and now I don't anymore. Yes, I'm choosing my reaction, but the weakness in me I suppose is being really annoyed and irritated with this company for screwing up a good thing.

    I guess you could take that one step farther in the logic of them being distanced and only greedy. YES, businesses want to make money. That's not what I mean. But if you are going to take something artistic and have no regard for integrity - well you've just insulted every customer who cares about things like that.

    I suppose I'm kind of analyzing why this is such a big deal for some of us. It's because they've taken something personal and genuine and corrupted it. And I have to say, at least with Nichole since she's the public face of PTI, pretty hypocritical. Her blog is all about the joy, the beauty, the creativity of this hobby. But I honestly don't think she really believes in all of that. If she really appreciated that aspect of her business, her company would be run differently.

  87. But it has been your decision to take this stuff personal. If there is one thing I can say for Julie, it is that she does not take this stuff personal. She just follows the rules, regardless of who she is dealing with. Some may not like the policies, especially if they are the ones who are trying to circumvent them, but she does not waver. The rules are the rules. She does not take into consideration the amount of product you have purchased in the past when dealing with you. It wouldn't be fair to the customers that do not spend as much.

    Nichole, I think, has changed a lot over the last 6 years. Not in a bad way, but she has changed as a result of seeing exactly how mean people can be. She was pretty naive when they started this thing. I don't think she understood going into this that the business side of it was going to be so hard. Nor did she understand, I think, the amount of hours and effort that it would take to help run a company that started from a single product, which has now grown into a company that designs, manufactures and sells over 3500 products.

    And I don't think PTI has corrupted anything more than the unhealthy expectations of some of it's customers. You can't put someone on a pedestal, and then get freaked out when they cannot uphold your vision of who YOU think they should be.

  88. i loved the designs and the way PTI, particulalry nichole used them. it inspired me to be a better stamper. we've both changed. i no longer find nichole's work interesting. her style piles on too much product for me. dies cuts everywhere. big huge words that are out of proportion for an A2 card. there is plenty of nice cardstock out there.

    i still think that PTI produces some great products but I rarely buy them. there are other companies whose products i like just as much.

  89. Do you expect people who run gun shops to be different kind of people than those who run knitting shops? Do you expect book store owners to be different from adult store owners? Do you expect different levels of integrity in car salesmen, your pharmacist, your realtor and your pediatrician? Do you have a different kind of relationship with your vegan restaurant owner than you do with someone who sells piercings? These professions DO draw different kinds of people. I always thought stampers were a certain kind, and for the most part that has been true when I get to know them well. A woman who stamps with a stamp club 2 evenings a week is a very different woman than one who hangs out drinking in strip clubs 2 evenings a week. I have been to many stamp parties, and clubs, and events over the years and I will say I have yet to attend one that was rowdy, risque, and the police had to be called. I did go to a Harley club party and it fit all 3 of those criteria.

    Can you imagine the outcry if Julie allowed customers who had purchased a large $ amount return items or whatever, but then didn't allow other customers who had spent less to do the same thing?

    Speaking very generally, it seems that in a shopping situation, online and in a brick and mortar store, whenever a shopper is denied what they want, the automatic response is to list how much money they have spent at that store, as if in that shopper's mind they should get preferential treatment because of the amount involved, not the circumstance.

  92. I believe Rachel. I sent ink back (the most recent formulation) and was told the colors were fine. They weren't. But Julie said they'd return the ink she didn't believe was off. There was no arguing with her. Sort of like the impression fiasco not long ago where customers wanted to return defective plates that had designs push through from front to back, and were told it was their technique that was the problem, and not the product.

  93. 7:47 #1, you are kind of mixing up a couple of different things here.

    I'm the one that started the topic of how the issue of crappy CS at PTI affects how I feel toward the products I currently have. And yes, I acknowledge that I "choose" to take this personally. It's not like I sat down and thought about it though - that's kind of the point. I've just thought about how I'm feeling about my PTI stuff because of disappointment in how they run their business.

    That's a lot different than people who expect to be treated differently because they are loyal customers. I finally went and read some of that email exchange between Rachel and Julie, and the reply from Rachel where she suddenly flies off the handle and goes on about how much money she has spent there has really colored how I look at that situation. She was way over the top and brought up things that are really irrelevant.

    Now, IRL, I do think that a shop owner who has a personal relationship with a customer may make allowances or judgment calls based on that relationship. There's a little more room for finesse and instincts IRL. Thank goodness that PTI doesn't have a brick and mortar shop!

    AND, the last thing I have EVER done is put Nichole or anyone in this business on a pedestal. The question is not them upholding my personal vision of what I think they should be. Honesty, integrity, respect, good business sense - that's what most people expect from a reputable business. Pretty standard stuff.

    There's an eatery here in my city that "everyone" loves. They rave. They go regularly. The place wins awards for crying out loud. But I've heard stories from people about how they have been treated by the owners. These stories show a truly nasty, insulting, mean nature in these owners and since hearing them I simply cannot bring myself to go there. And it does bug me a bit! Sometimes it would be so convenient to pop in there as it's pretty close by and sometimes we're doing other things nearby. And I like some of their food. But I just can't do it. Why would these successful business owners alienate some of their customers like that? I feel the same way about them as I do PTI.

  103. You know I was organizing all of my inks, and I hadn't realized how nicely they Archival inks stamp. They are so smooth. To bad they are not made for regular everyday stamping. And besides they stain the clear stamps really bad. I'm still on the hunt for nice inks, I'm trying hero arts and they are ok...but not wonderful like everyone seems to rave about them. At least in my opinion.

  105. Ancient page? I don't think I've heard of those. I was talking about the Ranger Archival inks. They are permanent inks, usually used with mixed media designs because they are permanent. They have some really nice colors, but like I said they stain really bad which is why they are used for permanent applications not everyday stamping.

  106. ranger archival inks are not the same as the old ancient page. ancient page inks were/are made by colorbox, which is now owned by SU. SU's new ink pads remind me of the ancient page ink pads.
